Rubric for Research Notebook/ Class participation (50 points)

Students will be graded on each the following items on 1-5 scale.

5 = excellent

4 = very good

3= average

2= needs improvement

1= unacceptable

  1. Student chooses topic and completes Information Log/ Presearch and gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  2. Student completes Information Log / Search 1, which helps them, limit their search. Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).
  3. Student makes proper use of class time and completes Book Search sheet. Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  4. Student makes proper use of class time and completes Periodical Search sheet.Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  5. Student makes proper use of class time and completes Internet Search sheet.Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  6. Student makes proper use of class time and completes outline of paper.Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  7. Student makes proper use of class time and completes introduction and 1st page.Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  8. Student makes proper use of class time and completes body and conclusion.Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  9. Student makes proper use of class time and completes cover page and bibliography.Student gets feedback from their research group and instructor (if necessary).

  10. Student made positive contributions to the research group and provided specific feedback in a respectful way.

Rubric for the Rough Draft (25 points)

Students will be graded on each the following items on 1-5 scale.

5 = excellent

4 = very good

3= average

2= needs improvement

1= unacceptable

11. The rough draft is completed on time and follows proper format including being typed, proper spacing, font (12 Times New Roman) and length (3-5 pages or 5-7 pages).

12. The rough draft includes cover page, outline, introduction, body, conclusion, and bibliography.

13. The paper defines the social problem and gives examples of the effects of the problem on the world.

14. The paper offers solutions to the social problem and offers the author’s opinion on the effectiveness of those solutions.

15. The paper is easy to read and is free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.

 

Final Draft (75 points)

Students will be graded on each the following items on 1-5 scale.

5 = excellent

4 = very good

3= average

2= needs improvement

1= unacceptable

16. The paper effectively defines the social problem.

17. The paper gives examples of the effects of the problem on the world. Examples may include statistics, personal stories, case studies, chart, graphs, etc.

18. The paper offers multiple solutions to the social problem.

19. The paper argues which solutions would work best and why.

20. The paper has a cover page, which includes name(s), topic, and the date.

21. The paper has a clear introduction, which explains the purpose of the paper.

22. The paper has a clear conclusion, which summarizes the main ideas of the paper.

23. The paper has an attached bibliography with proper format as outlined in class.

24. The bibliography includes at least 5 sources including at least two books, one periodical and one website.

25. The paper is the proper length (doubled spaced 12 Times New Roman font) (3-5 pages individual) or (5-7 pages for partners)

26. The paper uses sources to back up ideas using parenthetical citing method.

27. Spell check was used and the paper is free from spelling errors.

28. The paper is written in complete sentences and free from grammatical er

29. The paper flows well and is easy to read.
