Cold War Unit

Purpose: To explore the ideological tensions and worldwide conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States between 1945-1989. To explore how the cold war turned hot in Germany, Korea, Cuba, and Vietnam.

Objectives: At the end of this unit students will be able to:

    1. describe the causes and effects of the cold war
    2. identify and explain the significance of the following cold war terms: Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan, NATO, Warsaw Pact, Korean Conflict Berlin Blockade, Bay of Pigs invasion and Cuban Missile Crisis.
    3. describe how the cold war turned hot in Vietnam
    4. describe the escalation of the arms race
    5. analyze the fall of the communism in the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war

Skills: At the end of this unit students will be able to:

    1. create a map legend and timeline
    2. create a resume'
